FAQ
Here is the list of FAQ for Softex OmniPass Client Edition
FAQ No. 1:
Is Omnipass Client Edition 30 Day trial a Full Featured version?
Yes, except for the inability to import a user profile, the 30 day trial is a fully functional version and has all the features included in the Retail version.
FAQ No. 2:
Are there any Requirements for the new version of Omnipass?
The new version of Omnipass Requires Service pack 1 to be installed on Vista for the Upek fingerprint Scanners. It is recommended that SP1 for Vista be installed on all systems using the new version of Omnipass but is only REQUIRED for Upek sensors due to driver requirements from Upek.
FAQ No. 3:
Can I Import a user from a previous version of OmniPass into the new version of OmniPass?
Yes, you can import an exported User Profile from a previous version into the new OmniPass version, BUT all encrypted files from the previous version must be decrypted first as the encryption/decryption algorithms have changed and you will not be able to decrypt files in the new version that were encrypted in a previous version. If you are using Omnipass 4.0 or below you will need to reenroll your fingers as the drivers have been updated. Make sure that before exporting your user profile you disable any Authentication rules that you have set as your fingerprint will no longer work until you reenroll it.
FAQ No. 4:
I do not have an authentication device such as a fingerprint scanner. Can I still use OmniPass Client Edition?
Yes, when you get to the “Select Authentication device” screen simply press the “Next” button and you will be using your “Master Password” as you did in earlier versions.
FAQ No. 5:
How do I Import my profile from a previous series of Omnipass into the new series?
If you are using a previous version of Omnipass, then after installing the Full version of Omnipass and rebooting your computer, cancel the enrollment wizzard and open the Omnipass user interface by double clicking on the yellow key icon in your task bar, then click on the Run Enrollment Wizzard link from the Home Page of the Omnipass User Interface, then click on Restore a User's Omnipass profile. Omnipass will prompt you for the profile and then ask you for a password. Leave the password field blank and click OK, then Enter the current User credentials. You will need to right click on the key icon and select Login user for the first time. It is good to rexport your profile so that you have a current profile.
FAQ No. 6:
can I remember multiple passwords on a single website with the new version?
Yes!, To do this, remember your first login normally and then when you revisit the website, cancel the authentication dialogue and remember the next login, this time give it a different friendly name. The next time you visit this site, you will be prompted to select from the friendly names list before authenticating.
FAQ No. 7:
Does OmniPass support any other Internet Browser besides Microsoft Internet Explorer?
Yes, The new version of OmniPass supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher and now supports Mozilla Firefox 1.5 to 3.0 version.
FAQ No. 8:
Can I upgrade my existing version?
You will need to uninstall the old version before installing the new version of OmniPass. You must decrypt all encrypted files prior to uninstalling OmniPass 2.0 versions as the algorithms have changed.
FAQ No. 9:
What does "Required Devices" setting do in “Set Authentication Rules”?
If a specific authentication device is marked as “Required” then the user needs to authenticate with that device before that particular operation is allowed.
e.g If Fingerprint sensor is marked a “Required” for Windows Logon, then the user has to authenticate with the fingerprint sensor before he/she is allowed to login. If the user tries to login using the Windows Dialog box or use the Smart Card, the login will be denied by OmniPass.
The user can set more that one device as “Required”. In that case authentication with both the devices has to succeed before the operation is allowed.
e.g. If Fingerprint sensor and TPM is marked as "Required" for File and Folder Encryption, then unless the user authenticates with both the devices he/she will not be able to encrypt or decrypt any file/folder.
NOTE: To enable this feature in XP, make sure that you select "Strong Logon Authentication" from OmniPass Control Center->System Settings tab. If this feature is enabled you will go back to Classic Login Mode and Fast User Switching will be disabled.
FAQ No. 10:
What are some general safety rules for using OmniPass?
When using OmniPass we strongly recommend that you export your user profile and save that profile somewhere. If you remove a user, uninstall OmniPass, reinstall your operating system, or format your hard drive then all encrypted files will be lost forever unless you have an exported user profile. You must remember the user id, domain (computer name for those who are not on a domain) and the user password in order to import the user back into OmniPass. Even if you set up the same user with the same credentials and password, you will still not be able to decrypt your encrypted files without the exported user profile.
FAQ No. 11:
Will the new OmniPass Password Wizard work on all password fields?
No, The password wizard is designed for password-protected applications only. We are always adding support for password-protected applications. The wizard may remember the login information for you but not click on the “OK” or “Submit” button. This may be a limitation of OmniPass or by design from the application manufacturer. Please contact us if you have an application that the wizard does not work with and we will see if we can support it.
